91. DIY Spa Gift Basket


Everyone needs a little pampering. Why not create your own spa gift basket, filled with luxurious (hand made & inexpensive) ingredients...

You don't have to go out and spend lots of money to make these recipes & you can make them look every bit as nice as the expensive store-bought products.

I'm going to start you off thinking about presentation. A lot of diy sites display their beautiful concoctions in Weck Ware (which is really cool looking, but not terribly cost effective). You can get a similar look by using a variety of recycled jars, mason jars, Fido jars (the kind with the hinged lid), etc. I can usually find these at my local thrift store.

You can go a couple different routes with the presentation. You can keep all of the containers fairly uniform (similar style jars in the same or differing sizes), or you can make each container very different from all of the others. It will just depend on what you can find or what you have on hand.

And then there are the labels. You can design your own or use any of these free printables (just keep in mind that some of the printables are for specific recipes):

Body Butter

(from Rawmazing)
Makes 2 1/2 to 3 cups of whipped butter

You'll Need:
  • 1 cup organic raw shea butter (solid)
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil (solid)
  • 1/2 cup almond oil (liquid)

Instructions
  1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes.
  2. Stir in almond oil and essential oils of your choosing.*
  3. Place oil mixture in freezer or outside to chill.
  4. Wait until oils start to partially solidify then whip until a butter-like consistency is achieved.
  5. Place in clean, glass jar and enjoy! A little goes a long way.


*Not all essential oils are skin friendly or child friendly. Please do your research before adding.



Scented Bath Salts

Makes about 1 1/2 cups 



You'll Need:
  • ¾ cup Epsom salts
  • ½ cup coarse sea salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 6 drops essential oil (lavender is nice)
  • 6 drops vitamin E oil (optional)

Instructions:
  1. In a medium sized bowl, combine all ingredients & mix thoroughly.
  2. Place in small containers (you can use jars, test tubes with corks, or cellophane bags).
  3. Make or print out a label and affix to your container.


Foot Soak

(from My Frugal Adventures)
Makes 1/2 cup 




You'll Need:

  • 1/2 Cup Epsom Salts
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda 
  • 6 drops lavender essential oil (you can also use eucalyptus, peppermint, or tea tree oils) 
Instructions:
  1. In medium bowl, combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  2. Place in small containers.
  3. Add instructions: Add 1/4 cup foot soak to 1 gallon of hot water.
