88. DIY Instagram Projects

It's crazy to think that when I started this blog, Instagram didn't exist—That it wouldn't exist for another 4 years! But here we are in the Instagram era, so how could I not include projects that make use of the ever-expanding photo-app's popularity? Here are some of the more cool Instagram crafts currently out there (imo)...

84. DIY Instagram Magnets

I found this project over at The Surznick Common Room website and it seems fairly easy as DIYs go. They have lots of pictures if you need a visual tutorial.

74. Marble Magnets

MATERIALS
Decorative papers, such as wallpaper, wrapping paper, or magazine cutouts
    Paper punch (1 1/2 and 3/4 inches)
Flattened glass marbles (you can find these at any craft store)
Sobo glue or clear silicone adhesive (also found at craft stores)
    Super glue
Magnets (you can find these online, at hardware stores, and at craft stores)
    Scissors (optional)
    Pencil (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Using a paper punch, cut out decorative paper rounds. Since the marbles are irregularly shaped, you may have to trim the rounds to match. You can also trace the glass marble onto the paper using a pencil and cut out the shape.
  2. Using Sobo glue (or clear silicone adhesive), affix the printed side of the paper to a glass marble. Let the glue dry, and press out any bubbles.
  3. Using super glue, affix a magnet to the back of the paper. Let dry a few hours before using. Packaged in small boxes or tins, the magnets make wonderful gifts.
  4. Package the magnets in a recycled tin (like an altoids tin) for gifting

66. Soda Can Pins

MATERIALS
    Emptied & Cleaned Soda Can
    Can Opener
    Scissors
    brayer (or rolling pin)
Sizzix die cut machine (makes cutting the shapes easier, but if you don't have one, you can use scissors)
    glue stick
1/8" thick craft foam sheet (for backing)
    pin back (or magnet)

INSTRUCTIONS
  1. First get an empty, cleaned soda pop can. And take the top off of it with a can opener.
  2. Once the top is off, cut the pop can down the center.
  3. Now cut the bottom end off the pop can.
  4. You can take a brayer to flaten out the metal of the soda pop can.
  5. Now place the flatten soda can metal down on the plastic board of your sizzix machine. Place your favorite die right on top. (If you don't have a sizzix machine, draw the shape you'd like to cut out, directly on the can & cut with scissors.)
  6. pull down on the handle to die cut the shape out of the soda can.
  7. do the same thing with a foam sheet (the foam needs to be the same size and shape as your soda can design)
  8. take your 2 cut shapes , one soda can shape and one foam shape, and glue them togther.
  9. Once it is dried you can glue a pin back on or a magnet to the back side (the foam side)

[Edit 12/16]—It looks like the PC Crafts website is no longer, but I did find a video over on YouTube that shows how to make these pins.

53. Bottle Cap Magnets

MATERIALS:
metal bottle caps from soda or beer bottles
Photographs or photocopied images, magazine pictures, comic book pictures, etc.
    White glue
    Round magnets
Hot glue gun (with hot glue stick)
EnviroTex Lite or Ultra Glo varnish kit (includes varnish and hardener & can be found at craft stores), or other clear / non-yellowing sealant

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Cut your image(s) to fit inside the bottle cap.
  2. Using the white glue, adhere image to the inside of cap - make sure the image is smooth and there are no air bubbles or wrinkles
  3. place a little glue on top of the image, smooth, and let dry
  4. Cover image with EnviroTex, or varnish and let cure for 24 hours (make sure you follow the directions on the label).
  5. Using the glue gun, attach the magnet to the bottle cap

ALTERNATE IDEAS:

You can also drill a small hole in the top of the bottle cap & attach a small O-ring for a cord (to make a necklace) or a key chain

Instead of using the inverse side for images, why not just glue the magnet inside the bottle cap and let the cap be the magnet.
